Vestas to create 200 Isle of Wight jobs

As previously reported, it will produced blades for the world's most powerful wind turbines. When the joint venture between Vestas Wind Systems and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was first announced, it said 800 jobs would be created or safeguarded across the UK. The joint venture has now confirmed over 200 full-time, skilled jobs have been created on the Isle of Wight alone. They include production, engineering, management and logistics positions. The prototypes for the blades were designed, manufactured and tested on the Isle of Wight and production will be carried out at the blades technology centre on Stag Lane, Newport. Serial production on the blades will commence in May. The blades will be used by DONG Energy for a wind farm off Liverpool Bay.
