Goldwind has developed a hybrid tower for large machines installed in low wind areas.
It is composed of a cement base and steel upper part. Goldwind said there has been a high demand from investors for turbines in areas where wind speed is low and wind shear coefficient is high.
The product is believed to be the first of its kind in China and has been certified by the country's General Certification Centre.
Goldwind has also developed a tower with flexible foundations for wind turbines with hubs of 120 metres or higher.
According to Goldwind the tower uses less steel than a conventional version. A 120-metre tower, for example, utilises about 400 tonnes of steel, nearly two-thirds of the amount of steel typically used.
The flexible tower has been developed for low wind areas. A prototype has been installed and commissioned at two wind farms with 121 2.5MW turbines.
