INA drawn cup roller clutches from Schaeffler are used as reliable one-way clutches in the drives of electric motors for e-bikes. They transmit high torques from the drive to the output components, e.g. from the bottom bracket spindle to the chain ring. In central motor drives for e-bikes, drawn cup roller clutches perform an overrunning or locking function, e.g. to decouple the central motor from the drive train. This is always necessary if the cyclist does not require the assistance of the drive system, e.g.on a flat stretch of road or if he deliberately switches off the drive.
Drawn cup roller clutches are high precision machine elements consisting of thin-walled, drawn outer rings (drawn cups) with a series of ramps on the inside diameter, plastic cages, springs and needle rollers. They can be used in a wide range of applications as back-stopping or overrunning clutches. Drawn cup roller clutches have particularly compact radial dimensions and carry out indexing from the locking direction in the freewheel direction reliably and precisely. These roller clutches are available with and without bearing supports. Drawn cup roller clutches with bearing supports can also support radial forces. INA drawn cup roller clutches are characterized in particular by high indexing frequencies thanks to their low mass and the resulting low moment of inertia of the clamping elements. They also have a low overrunning frictional torque. Since the needle rollers are individually spring retained, this ensures that the shaft, needle roller and clamping surface remain in contact with each other. This allows a high indexing accuracy to be achieved.
Drawn cup roller clutches of series HF, HFL and FRAX are used particularly in bicycle applications. One-way clutches of series HF have no bearing support and can only transmit torques. They feature an extremely compact design. One-way clutches with the additional letter "L" can also support radial forces due to the integral plain or rolling bearings. Both one-way clutch series are suitable for aluminum housings.
Roller clutches with a knurled outside surface have the suffix R and are suitable for use with plastic housings.
Roller clutches of series FRAX are clutches in drawn cup design with drawn outer rings and integral ramps. They can transmit significantly higher torques compared to drawn cup roller clutches with needle rollers. Thanks to their compact design, these roller clutches offer an excellent power density and are also very easy to mount.
