Wind turbine components will start to be delivered to Vattenfall's 228MW Pen Y Cymoedd wind farm in Wales from Monday. The developer confirmed the foundations and access tracks are close to completion which means component carrying lorries can start delivering to the site from next week. Two convoys a day with up to three lorries at a time will start to arrive at the site, with the trip expected to include escort vehicles - including police - because of the size of the equipment. Vattenfall has warned that traffic may have to be stopped along the A4061 for short periods of time. Between November 2015 and next summer 912 turbine deliveries are expected with 75% of them involving abnormal loads. The longest component is a 55m blade and the heaviest is the nacelle which weighs 81 tonnes. Turbine installations will take place throughout 2016. The first step will be the installation of the two lower tower sections, turbine by turbine. Each turbine when completed will be 145m high to the tip of the blade.
