For regional disaster and crime prevention measures, and as a proposal for locally produced and consumed renewable energy NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) decided to donate “NTN Hybrid Street Lights,”*1 which generate power using wind and solar light, to five locations within Japan as one initiative aimed at coexisting with local communities as part of the company's 100th anniversary activities. A donation ceremony was held in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, one of the locations receiving the donation. With NTN's 100th anniversary approaching in March 2018, NTN will donate a total of 17 units of “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” to five locations within Japan, as part of efforts to express appreciation to communities in regions that have given support over the years but also hope to be together with them.*2 One of those locations is Kuwana City in Mie Prefecture, where NTN was established in 1918 and expanded its business over the past 100 years while receiving great support and cooperation from the local community. In addition to Kuwana Works, NTN today also runs numerous manufacturing, research and development, logistics and other bases of operation in the Kuwana region, and conducts business activities mainly for industrial machinery. The “NTN Hybrid Street Light Donation Ceremony” was held on August 30 at the Kuwana City Office, where President Ohkubo presented Kuwana City Mayor Ito with a record of the donation. Mayor Ito responded, stating “The Nagashima district, where the Hybrid Street Lights will be installed, suffered extensive damage in 1959 from the Isewan Typhoon, and local residents have a high level of awareness of disasters. During a disaster situation, these Hybrid Street Lights automatically illuminate guidance signboards to evacuation shelters and also provide night-time LED lighting. They provide local residents with excellent peace of mind, for which I am so grateful for.” The donated “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” will be installed in locations like the community center in the northern area of Nagashima in Kuwana, to provide illumination at evacuation shelters or guidance signboards to evacuation shelters. The lights to be donated to other locations will be installed accordingly. NTN is contributing to realizing a low carbon society by proposing locally produced and consumed energy with these products that utilize natural energy and can be used for regional disaster or crime prevention measures.
