On June 26, Tang Wei, Dean of the School of Electrical and Control Engineering at Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, was invited to attend the SKF Paper Industry Summit held in Dalian, Liaoning, and delivered a keynote speech entitled "The Development of AI and Its Potential Applications in the Paper Industry". In the report, Tang Wei briefly reviewed the development of automation in my country's paper industry, expounded on the experience of learning about my country's "15th Five-Year Plan" intelligent manufacturing promotion strategy, introduced the development of artificial intelligence AI and ChatGPT and DeepSeek, and finally discussed in detail the potential applications of AI in the paper industry in six aspects.

Tang Wei pointed out that after 20 years of vigorous development, China's papermaking industry has accounted for 30% of the world's output and consumption. It is expected that in the next 30 years, it will continue to move towards the international leading level of low carbon, low water consumption and low pollution emissions; intelligent manufacturing, as the core driving force, is leading the papermaking industry to leap from automation to digitalization, networking and intelligence; there are three main ways for the papermaking industry to achieve clean production: through advanced processes and equipment to move towards clean production, through the treatment and reuse of "three wastes" to achieve clean production, and through automation, informatization and intelligent technology to assist clean production. Among them, the third method is the lowest cost method, and it can enhance the implementation effect of the first two methods and promote industrial transformation and upgrading; the papermaking industry is moving towards Industry 4.0, which requires soft measurement of key parameters that cannot be detected online, online diagnosis of operating faults of key papermaking equipment, and online detection of paper quality. He particularly pointed out that building an AI-driven "green data, green calculation, green energy and green network" development model is a strategic fulcrum for the papermaking industry to move towards the era of Industry 4.0. The industry urgently needs to accelerate the construction of a data-enabled intelligent decision-making system to promote the green and sustainable development of the industry with technological innovation.
