With its official EASA airworthiness certification, LYC is now a certified key bearing component supplier for the C919 airliner

On October 13, 2025, China's aviation industry achieved a major breakthrough: LYC officially received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) airworthiness certification, becoming a supplier of key bearing components for the domestically produced C919 large aircraft. This achievement marks international recognition of China's high-end bearing manufacturing capabilities and injects new momentum into the C919's supply chain independence.

LYC's breakthrough has increased the C919's localization rate to 92% (up from 85%), achieving 100% domestic control of key components. With EASA certification progressing, LYC has initiated cooperation negotiations with Embraer to provide bearing solutions for the E190-E2. This internationalization strategy, using the C919 as a springboard, is reshaping the global aviation supply chain.

Certification Breakthrough: From Ground Testing to International Recognition

Under EASA's four-stage certification process, LUO Bearing achieved Stage 3 compliance demonstration, demonstrating that its bearing products meet international standards in key indicators such as structural strength, fatigue life, and extreme environment performance. During the certification process, the EASA technical team conducted an on-site inspection of LUO Bearing's production line, focusing specifically on material processing and quality control systems, ultimately providing positive feedback that the results met expectations. This certification not only shortens the C919's subsequent international airworthiness certification cycle but also lays the foundation for LUO Bearing to expand into the overseas aviation market.

Significance: Strengthening Supply Chain Security and Performance

LUO Bearing's bearings will be primarily used in the C919's landing gear system. Their high precision and low friction characteristics significantly improve the aircraft's fuel efficiency. Previously, some C919 bearings were imported. With this certification, the localization rate will increase to over 90%. COMAC stated that the addition of LUO Bearing will help optimize supply chain resilience and reduce manufacturing costs, enhancing the C919's competitiveness in expanding into Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Industry Impact: A Win-Win Situation Accelerates

Currently, the C919 has completed over 5,000 commercial flights and carried over 700,000 passengers (as of September 2025). LYC's certification not only promotes the coordinated development of the domestic large aircraft industry chain but also demonstrates China's high-end manufacturing capabilities to the world. Analysts indicate that with the accelerated EASA certification process, the C919 is expected to obtain European airworthiness certification in 2026, at which point LYC may become a potential competitor in the Airbus and Boeing supply chains.

Full-Chain Innovation from Materials to Processes

LYC's landing gear bearings for the C919 utilize ultra-fine bainitic steel. Through a nano-scale heat treatment process, they achieve stable performance under extreme temperature fluctuations from -55°C to 300°C, resulting in a fatigue life double that of conventional bearings. This material overcomes US export restrictions on Inconel 718 alloy and fully meets EASA's stringent requirements for aviation bearings with 10 vibration loads. During the production process, LYC introduced digital twin technology to simulate the stress distribution of bearings under takeoff, landing and other working conditions, so that the product delivery qualification rate reached 99.8% in one time.
