Ten-Day Report on Steel Social Inventory Monitoring for 2025 Mid-December

First,Overall Inventory Situation In mid-December, the social inventory of five major steel products in 21 cities was 7.48 million tons, a decrease of 470,000 tons or 5.9% compared with the previous month, and the decline in inventory continued to widen; an increase of 890,000 tons or 13.5% compared with the beginning of the year; and an increase of 770,000 tons or 11.5% compared with the same period of the previous year.

In mid-December, looking at different regions, the social inventory of steel in the seven major regions decreased to varying degrees compared with the previous month, except for North China and Northwest China, which remained flat. East China had the largest reduction in both volume and magnitude of decrease. See the figure below for details.

Second. Inventory Overview by Product Type In mid-December, the social inventory of the five major steel products decreased to varying degrees compared with the previous month, except for medium and heavy plates which remained flat. Rebar saw the largest decrease, while wire rod saw the largest decrease. Year-on-year, wire rod inventory decreased, while other product inventories increased, with cold-rolled coil showing the largest increase in both volume and magnitude. See the table below for details.
